Alerting Tools
Ad Hoc Query and analysis uses relational OLAP tools to query a
database to answer a particular question. Using slice-and-dice techniques,
the entire database can be interrogated down to the lowest level
transaction.
This includes:
- Report Subscription and Delivery
- Exception-based Alerting
- Information Delivery Services
The Alerting function typically includes the ability to trigger
a proactive and centralized set of reports to be sent to a subscription
list. Users can subscribe based on role authority to various report
distributions.
Report distribution can also be event-triggered, such as when a
particular metrics value falls below a target threshold. The obvious
example is inventory levels. Should inventory drop below the prescribed
level, a series of reports related to shipment performance, SKU
margin performance, and cost of new promotions may be triggered,
providing decision makers with immediate information needed to determine
what action should be taken to maintain objectives. These objectives
vary for each business - one may be more focused on product availability
to maintain customer satisfaction, whereas another may be pushing
to reach profitability targets.
Appropriate tools are a critical factor in any Performance Management
System and using the right tool for the right purpose, is a key
enabler.
