Order Management System For Telcos
Rollout of broadband [DSL and Fibre] is very aggressive, in the
fight to gain a competitive edge in supporting 3xPlay and 4xPlay
services.
These deployments face three key challenges:
- Increasing network flexibility
- Enabling rapid service deployment
- Achieving operational excellence
Order Management System Processes
An Order Management System is a business engine capable of configuring
and managing complex processes including:
- Ordering Customer CPE
- Configuring and enabling the network
- Establishing access and security configuration for new customers
- Enabling billing processes
- Managing order fallout
The solution utilises multiple systems, through multiple interfaces.
Order Fallout
An Order Management System handles a large number of requests and
responses between systems. A basic protocol of 'Acknowledge-Accept-Error-Completion'
follows each request. When an error occurs, each application assigns
a unique error code and description based upon the error scenario.
The error is either then programmed to 'retry' or requires manual
intervention. When such errors cause an order request to 'fall out'
of the system, that is, it is not processed, it is referred to as
order fallout.
Managing order fallout is a critical part of the Order Management
System. Various models are used to track order fallout throughout
the software implementation cycle.
